Taxi VS Becak in Medan

Medan is the city where i lived in now. This is a developing city, i would say, where there's little accomodating public transport like the bus system or mrt dan lrt. So people here usually hired private coach/bus to take them to work/school or even buy their own modes of transport like car, and motor cycles.

I used to take a lot of becak during my high school here. But since i started working, Becak became a less preffered modes of transport due to the arrival of taxi. Why not? in taxi you can have a comfort seat, with air conditioned and not polluted air unlike Becak.

But sometimes, due to unable to get standby taxi or pass by taxi by the streets, i am forced to take Becak. Becak is always ubiquitously available in Medan. In every corner of street, there's becak stand. Even in the road, there are many becak passed by.

Another important point why i didn't enjoy taking Becak because the driver sometimes is very rude.  Also, they like to charge us very high price. So we need to be a good bargainer. Once, A becak driver charged me Rp 25,000.- for a trip from office to my house which is quite near by. If i took a passer by taxi, The maximum i will pay only Rp 12,000,-. And worse, if i call taxi to fetch me, i will only paid a maximum of Rp 25,000 for the ride.

So i really hope that one day in Medan, Taxi will be commonly available in public places unlike now where they can only be found in malls and airports. Or if not, a more accomodatting public transport will be bus dan mrt.
