Imprisonement, did it helps?

Prison has been a tradition since the ancient ages to punish those people who are doing harmful actions towards others like manslaughter, con, and etc. But does this ancient institution still helps to offer a solution for those "criminals". Many of those who came out of prison, went back to it a few weeks after their release.

Once they are released, they have problems to fit in to our society. The fit in problems occurs because they didn't get the chance to proof themselves in our society. Almost no company in this world want to hire a ex-prison member. This might because there's a stereotype on ex-prisoners that they are no good people. Maybe the stereotype is true in some cases. You can imagined having living in a place where all your friends are criminals. The environmental aspects is forcing them to develop this criminal personality when they are in the prison. When they are out, they need to adjust to our society but personality things is not that easy to adapt. They need time to adjust but they also need money to survive. the need for money is usually the main forces that made them decide to do the wrong thing and end up back to the prison again.

They find it hard to fit in also because they didn't have the required skills or educations to survive in our society. The competitiveness in the labour market demand every labor to have certain certification even just to do a menial jobs.
....

So now the problems lies in the goverment of each country. Do they want to help criminals to mend their ways or do they just want to fill up their prison with the same person. Looking for the economy perspective, Government will be better in the long run if they adopt a new system that could help ex-criminals fit in the society so they didn't end up in the prison again. In this sense, we can look at the cost to accomodate this prisoners, like food, water, and electricity. The cost will be lower in the long run if this criminal can mend their way and fit in the society as no repetitive cost incurred per person. If they were to enter the prison again, the cost will be times the number of time they enter. It's also great for the macroeconomy if the ex-criminals can fit in and contribute to the economy as well as the society.

Developing a new system for criminals isn't an easy case. Will the system really works? do all criminal need to go to the new system or is it better that some are put in the traditional prison?
The new system that i think is a system that not only give the criminals education and skills but more to it like personality, emotional intelligence, relationship skills, leadership, and more practical things. If possible the criminal might be given chance to do internship with some company.
